Where Sylvia’s assailant got his hands on a clown mask in teeny Walnut Grove, Minnesota, is as much a mystery as why Landon thought this icky entry belonged in the Little House oeuvre. ‘Little House on the Prairie‘ is divided into twenty-five chapters and is over 300 pages long. The book starts out with the family leaving their home and facing all the threats one might expect from the landscape. ‘Little House on the Prairie’ is part of the Little House series and the best-known of the many books. It describes what happens as the Ingalls family seeks out a new home in Kansas.
As the story begins, Pa is taking Laura 12 miles from home to her first teaching assignment at Brewster settlement. Laura, only 15 and a schoolgirl herself, is apprehensive, as this is both the first time she has left home and the first school she has taught. She is determined to complete her assignment and earn $40 to help her sister Mary, who is attending Vinton College for the Blind in Iowa. The story of the first book in the series, Little House in the Big Woods, revolves around the life of the Ingalls family in their small home near Pepin, Wisconsin. Welcome to our site dedicated to celebrating the timeless classic, “Little House on the Prairie”, the Little House book series and its esteemed author, Laura Ingalls Wilder. Delve into the heartwarming tales of the Ingalls family as they navigate life’s challenges and joys on the American frontier.
The large mobilization of pioneers to the Dakotas in early March prompts Pa to leave immediately on the few days' trip to the claims office. The girls are left alone, and they spend their days and nights boarding and feeding all the pioneers passing through. They charge 25 cents for dinner and boarding, starting a savings account toward sending Mary to the School for the Blind in Vinton, Iowa, which Mary begins to attend later in the series. From the moment it hit the airwaves in 1974, the TV adaptation of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s beloved Little House on the Prairie book series became must-see family viewing. Little girls begged for sun bonnets and prairie dresses, and big girls were busy making vintage-inspired Gunne Sax dresses for school dances and other formal affairs. The show proved a passion project for Michael Landon, who sought another surefire hit after rising to fame on the long-running Bonanza.

Pioneer Girl: An Annotated Biography
‘Little House on the Prairie‘ by Laura Ingalls Wilder is a beloved classic tale of frontier life. The story follows the Ingalls family, Papa, Ma, Mary, and Laura, as they travel to Kansas with the hope of building a home there. They struggle to make the journey, and when they get there, Pa works for months to build them a house. Even still, not all is well, and the family deals with threats from nature and surrounding Native American tribes. As they were preparing to leave, the Ingallses received word from Wisconsin that the man who purchased their farm near Pepin had defaulted on the mortgage.
She did more historical research on this novel than on any other novel she wrote in an attempt to have all details as accurate as possible. Be it frugality or admiration, Landon shamelessly repurposed some of his favorite Bonanza storylines into Little House plots. Among them, Bonanza’s “A Matter of Circumstance” sees Landon’s Little Joe nearly lose an injured arm, and possibly his life, to infection with no one at the ranch to come to his aid. In Little House’s “A Matter of Faith,” an infected wound on Ma’s leg nearly proves fatal before she can join Charles and the girls on a campout.
And so Laura Ingalls Wilder’s adventure as a little pioneer girl ends, and her new life as a pioneer wife and mother begins. The nine Little House books have been cherished by generations of readers as both a unique glimpse into America’s frontier past and a heartwarming, unforgettable story. Written by Laura Ingalls Wilder, the book is autobiographical, though some parts of the story were embellished or changed to appeal more to an audience, such as Laura's age.
Little House on the Prairie, published in 1935, is the third book in the Little House series but only the second that features the Ingalls family; it continues directly the story of the inaugural novel, Little House in the Big Woods. The ninth book in the series, The First Four Years (novel), and the final book to feature Laura as the protagonist, follows the earliest years of Laura and Almanzo's marriage. Found after Wilder's death, the book was published in its original draft form in 1971. Sleigh rides give way to buggy rides in the spring, and Laura impresses Almanzo with her willingness to help break his new and often temperamental horses, Barnum and Skip.
Laura takes her first train ride as she, her sisters, and their mother come out to live with Pa on the shores of Silver Lake. After a lonely winter in the surveyors’ house, Pa puts up the first building in what will soon be a brand-new town on the beautiful shores of Silver Lake. Wilder's Pioneer Girl, the story of her childhood, was begun by the author in 1930, when she was in her early 60s, but was rejected by editors at the time. In another recollection, a shopkeeper drags his wife around by her hair, pours kerosene on the floor of his house, and sets their bedroom on fire. From her images of the "great, dark trees of the Big Woods" to the endless grass of the prairies in the west, Laura Ingalls Wilder's depictions of frontier life for America's pioneers in her beloved "Little House" series of children's books have won her countless fans. Now the writer's autobiography, from which she drew the material that has delighted readers for decades, will be published this autumn for the first time, more than 80 years after she first wrote it.
Collector’s Editions, Anniversary Editions & Boxed Sets Many of the books have been published in limited special or collector editions over the years. Later, Laura and her husband, Almanzo Wilder, made their own covered-wagon trip with their daughter, Rose, to Mansfield, Missouri.

It stood and still stands in stark contrast to the banalities of much of today’s public architecture. In our region, there is a long history of agrarian/industrial structures such a tobacco-drying barns and bourbon-aging rickhouses, and their straightforward simplicity influences a lot of our work.

Jeffery Bilhuber creates classic American interiors for classic American trendsetters, including Anna Wintour and David Bowie. He says that “American design is grounded in function and based on necessity.” After all, what is the purpose of having a room that doesn’t suit your needs? I was lucky enough to have Jeffery as my mentor early on in my design career. He taught me the foundations of American style, mixing highbrow and lowbrow items together in the same space—all with an air of not taking yourself too seriously. An initial adult base weight was calculated for the cases with a completed extended interview as the product of the truncated number of adults in the household (max value of 3) and the household weight.
Interior design is all about establishing a sense of time and place in the home, and no one knows that better than Steven Gambrel. Gambrel, Inc., an influential interior design firm specializing in design commissions and custom furnishings. Steven Gambrel’s designs create a distinct American appeal, sampling from various styles, including Colonial, contemporary, and coastal.
The crux of the trend was to melt styles, shapes, colors, and materials in a way that was unencumbered by design rules. We are constantly reimagining what the home can be and adapting styles to our changing ways of life. Today, effortless elegance, cool colors, and casual contemporary interiors make up the backdrop of modern celebrity and glamour.
To maximize response, the survey used a sequential mixed-mode protocol in which sampled households were first directed to respond online and later mailed a paper version of the questionnaire if they did not respond online. Those excluded were people solely of Southwest Asian descent (e.g., Lebanese, Saudi), those with Central Asian origins (e.g., Afghan, Uzbek) as well as various other non-Asian origins. The impact of excluding these groups is small, as together they represent about 1%-2% of the national U.S. Asian population, according to a Pew Research Center analysis of the 2021 American Community Survey. On the simulator, each quantum transformer categorized a set of retinal images with between 50 and 55 percent accuracy—greater than the 20 percent accuracy that randomly sorting retinas into one of five categories would have achieved. The 50- to 55-percent range was about the same accuracy level (53 to 56 percent) achieved by two classical transformers with vastly more complex networks.

"Frey House II showcased an architecture that was truly embedded in the great landscape of the American West. "Beyond its transformative design language, Lever House powerfully blurred the line between public/private and internal/external realms in New York's dense urban fabric. When we deviate from the pragmatism and self-reliance [of the region], then I believe that is where the architecture becomes sometimes numbingly instrumental and soulless. I think every city has its own DNA, an underlying character, and shapes its culture, and I believe as an architect, identifying and understanding this fundamental character is a precondition to making positive contributions to it. Chicago is a tough, no-nonsense place which values hard work, and I think you see this reflected in its architectural production.

The anti-abortion movement for decades has used the anniversary of the Jan. 22, 1973, Roe vs. Wade decision to flood the grounds of the state Capitol with demonstrators and graphic images posted on placards. Even though Roe was reversed in 2020, ending the constitutional right to abortions, the demonstrations continue, and they draw thousands. One was held in January at the Capitol, and Texas Rally For Life is already promoting next year's event with a countdown clock to the 1 p.m. But those on the political left do not have a monopoly when it comes to public protests. Ford first broke into the fashion industry working for Gucci in 1990, where he served as the creative director until 2004.

Beyond being the fragrance of choice for every 13 year-old circa the mid-noughties, Anna Sui was a game-changing designer whose influence is still apparent today, all over TikTok and in the closets of your favourite pop stars. Previously a stylist for her friend Steven Meisel, Sui launched her namesake label in 1980, only putting on her first catwalk show in 1991. Described as the “darling of downtown fashion” by Vogue in 1992, Sui’s aesthetic married childlike play with rock’n’roll; she put men out in dresses, dressed the supers in marabou headwear, and was named one of Time’s Top 5 Designers of the Decade. Through their distinctive styles, unparalleled creativity, and unwavering dedication to their craft, these visionary American designers have carved out a unique space in the industry, showcasing the true essence of American ingenuity. Stories emerge from a breadth of voices, and there is nothing succinct about it. There is an unwillingness to be tethered and a yearning for a new morning. American design feels both fast and slow; it is innovative but just waking up, working hard now and hopeful for what’s ahead.

Richard Meier reveals how working on the renovation of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Guggenheim Museum furthered his understanding of the building’s genius, while Alexa Hampton chose a house in France to represent the best of classic American country-house style.
Owens's ability to challenge preconceived notions through genderless pieces like shrunken leather jackets, dramatically draped gowns, and distressed knitwear asks us to see the world in a new light, making him a visionary in his own right. Perhaps one of America’s best gifts to the fashion industry, Marc Jacobs has lived many lives, to borrow from The New York Times 2020 profile of the designer. Serving as artistic director at the house until 2014, Jacobs introduced a long-term series of artist collaborations, reworking classic Vuitton handbags with Stephen Sprouse, Takashi Murakami, and Yayoi Kusama. And, as anyone who followed his Instagram during the early days of the pandemic knows, he’s still giving. Perhaps one of his most direct interpretations of Americana arrived in the form of his AW01 collection, which borrowed hairstyling tips from queen Dolly Parton and saw garments printed with dollar bills. Beloved by titans of modern pop culture, his collaborative relationship with Katy Perry has been widely documented on social media, while he’s also responsible for creating the flight attendant outfit worn by Britney Spears in the “Toxic” video.

Prepare to be captivated by the remarkable talent and ingenuity that are the hallmarks of American fashion design. In addition, I’m looking forward to creating some new pieces from materials other than wood that call upon the skills of some of the incredible craftspeople I’ve met since moving to Portland.
I’m also really looking forward to seeing the breadth of thoughtful work that my friends will release in the coming year. I’ve always been attracted to how balancing organic and manufactured elements enhance each other. The majority of the pieces from last year point toward this; they’re hand- and wheel-built angled forms, colored somewhat messily, embracing imperfections in how they warp or spill over. I’m happy to make something that’s not so minimal, finding a lot of interest in the effects of color and how it can influence emotion. Thinking of ceramic objects as pieces that celebrate a sense of unpredictability and chance.
With the increased popularity of mass-produced items, various industries were designing items with planned obsolescence in mind. Art Deco first appeared in France after World War I. Lastly, a couple interior projects I’ve been working on for several years are close to completion, which I’m thrilled about. In many ways, American design feels free and unconstrained, and there isn’t necessarily any one dominant theme. There’s a celebration of diversity and novelty, and I see that in my own work too. I also operate between the disciplines of furniture, interior space, and architecture.

Passengers often choose an Atlantic to Pacific or Pacific to Atlantic route, depending on where they live, although you'll gain hours if you choose the latter. (Some people prefer to have their longer one-way flight at the beginning of a trip, instead of the end.) With this trans-canal option, you spend a day on the canal, crossing from ocean to ocean and going through the complete lock experience. If having the full "canal experience" is part of your bucket list -- or if you're an engineering geek and don't care too much about shore excursions within Panama itself -- this trip is for you. Most full Panama Canal cruises do call in the Western Caribbean, the Costa Rican ports of Limon (on the Atlantic side) and Puntarenas (on the Pacific), and Cartagena, Colombia.
